At Challney we take our ‘pastoral’ responsibility very seriously. All staff at the school are part of a ‘caring’ framework and we have a dedicated pastoral team which has specific responsibility for this provision.
The first line of care is the Form Tutor who registers your son twice daily. It is the form tutor’s responsibility to monitor daily progress, provide encouragement and advice, coordinate reports from subject teachers and generally keep a watchful eye for signs of difficulty. Each year group has a Head of Year and an Assistant Head of Year, whose job it is to monitor the development of the year as a whole, sort out more serious problems and contact parents where appropriate.
These work closely with the Educational Welfare Officer who helps us monitor absence from school.
